Initial Assessment and Removal
The project commenced with the removal of the existing roof at Potterston Farm. This crucial first step allowed us to start afresh, ensuring that the new installation was built on a solid foundation, free from any limitations imposed by the previous structure.
Craftsmanship in Structure
Choosing to install a hand-cut roof using robust 8×2 trusses crafted and fitted by the skilled team at RHA Joiner and Builders was a decision driven by our commitment to durability and the specific structural requirements of the building.
Enhancing Durability with Sarking Boards
An essential component of our roofing project was the installation of 22 mm sarking boards. These boards provide an additional layer of insulation and moisture protection, which is vital given the unpredictable weather in Dalrymple.
Advanced Weather Protection
Following the installation of the sarking boards, the roof was covered with a high-quality, breathable membrane felt. This layer is critical for ensuring that the roof structure can breathe while remaining waterproof, thereby enhancing the overall integrity and lifespan of the roof.
Installation of Velux Windows
The project also included the installation of five Velux windows, complete with slate flashings. These windows not only enhance the natural light within the building but also improve ventilation, contributing significantly to the energy efficiency and internal comfort of the farm.
Superior Slate Roofing
For the roofing material, we opted for 400mm by 200mm Cupa Spanish slate. This choice reflects our dedication to using materials that are not only visually striking but also extremely durable and long-lasting.
Meticulous Lead and Zinc Work
The roof’s complexity was further managed through precision lead work. Code 5 lead was used for fitting to valleys and abutments, and Code 7 was applied to the boxed gutter, ensuring all joints and transitions were watertight. Additionally, a 14-inch vented zinc ridge was installed along the hips and ridge, augmenting the roof’s ability to withstand the elements.
